An E.D.G.E. Product — Utah Scientific

On-Ramp IP Gateway

HD · 3G · 12G · IP — All in 1RU

On-Ramp gives UHD, UDS, Series 2, and Next Generation routers a direct path into the IP world. A single 1RU chassis accepts up to four hot-swappable modules — encapsulation, de-encapsulation, SDI processing, or any combination — so the platform adapts to the workflow rather than the other way around.

Gateway, processing, distributed routing, or all three: On-Ramp is built to fill the gaps that fixed-function boxes cannot.

Your IP On-Ramp, Configured to the Job

On-Ramp bridges SDI infrastructure and IP distribution in a single 1RU chassis. Gateway, processing, or both — up to four hot-swappable modules configure to whatever your workflow demands today, with room to adapt as requirements change.

Live Production & OB

Outside broadcast trucks and live production facilities that carry mixed HD, 3G, and 12G SDI signals can use On-Ramp as a compact gateway, converting feeds to IP for network distribution without adding rack space.

Master Control & Centralcasting

Broadcast facilities running Utah Scientific UHD, UDS, or Series 2 routers gain a direct path into IP distribution. On-Ramp's combined gateway and processing modules let master control operators handle format conversion and signal conditioning from a single device.

Distributed Routing Infrastructure

Multi-site operations and campus-scale installations use On-Ramp to extend SDI routing across IP backbones. Combining local routing with IP distribution scales sources and destinations well beyond what a single router frame can handle.

Product Overview

One Chassis. Four Modules.
Every Signal Path Covered.

On-Ramp is Utah Scientific's E.D.G.E. platform IP gateway and signal processor — a 1RU chassis that accepts up to four hot-swappable modules, each configurable as an IP encapsulator, de-encapsulator, or SDI signal processor. Engineers building hybrid SDI/IP workflows get a single device that handles gateway, processing, or both simultaneously.

Designed as the IP on-ramp for Utah Scientific's UHD, UDS, and Series 2 router families — as well as future Next Generation routers — it handles HD, 3G, and 12G SDI signals within a single chassis. IP and Processor boards can be mixed freely, and all modules are hot-swappable from the front without taking the unit offline.

When paired with local routing infrastructure, On-Ramp extends signal distribution across IP networks — scaling sources and destinations without adding rack space. A 10-year no-fee hardware warranty is included.

Key Features

Built for the Engineer Who Needs Options

Flexible Encap/De-Encap

Configure each module as single, double, or mixed Encap/De-Encap to match your exact signal flow — without reordering hardware.

HD/UHD SDI Processing

Optional processing boards add Up/Down/Cross conversion, Frame-sync, and Clean and Quiet output — covering HD, 3G, and 12G SDI in one slot.

Gateway + Processing Combined

Mix IP and Processor boards in the same chassis. Run gateway-only, processing-only, or a combination — the architecture supports all three without compromise.

Distributed Routing Support

Combine local routing with IP distribution to scale sources and destinations across a facility or across sites — all managed through existing router control infrastructure.

Hot-Swappable Modules

All IP and Processor boards are hot-swappable from the front of the chassis. Swap, add, or reconfigure modules without pulling the unit from the rack or interrupting adjacent paths.

Audio Embed/DeEmbed/Shuffle

Audio manipulation is built into the processing pipeline. Embed, de-embed, and shuffle audio channels as part of the same signal path — no external audio hardware required.

What Engineers Say

Proven in the Field

The UTAH-400 was a great choice for the upgrade. Not only does the router come with Utah Scientific's no-fee, 10-year warranty — unheard of in the broadcast industry — but it's based on a unique hybrid signal architecture that offers a single platform for all types of signals.

Todd Mason Founder & CEO, Broadcast Media Group

The first and most important element in our decision to renew was our current router's dependability. It ran 24/7, 365 for nine years, with no failures — no power supply failures, no control failures, no need to reboot.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

On-Ramp is a 1RU E.D.G.E. product designed to bring SDI signals onto an IP network for Utah Scientific's UHD, UDS, and Series 2 router families, with compatibility planned for future Next Generation routers. A single chassis handles HD, 3G, and 12G SDI, and up to 4 hot-swappable modules can be mixed to cover IP encapsulation, de-encapsulation, signal processing, or gateway functions — in whatever combination the workflow demands.

On-Ramp supports single, double, or mixed Encap/De-Encap configurations. It can be deployed as a Gateway-only unit, a Processing-only unit, or a combined Gateway and processing device. IP and Processor boards can be mixed in the same chassis, and the unit can extend local routing into IP distribution for greater source and destination scalability.

When equipped with optional Processor boards, On-Ramp handles HD and UHD SDI processing including Up/Down/Cross conversion, frame synchronization, and Clean and Quiet output. Audio embedding, de-embedding, and shuffling are also available, making it possible to address multi-format and audio routing requirements within the same 1RU chassis.

Yes. Both IP and Processor boards are hot-swappable from the front of the chassis. That means modules can be added, replaced, or reconfigured without taking the system offline — an important consideration for facilities where uptime cannot be compromised during operational hours.

On-Ramp is compatible with Utah Scientific's UHD, UDS, and Series 2 router lines. It is also designed to support the future Next Generation router family, providing a degree of forward compatibility for facilities that expect to migrate their infrastructure over time.

On-Ramp includes Utah Scientific's 10-year no-fee hardware warranty. Parts and labor are covered in full for the entire warranty period, with no hidden service charges. For broadcast infrastructure expected to run continuously for years, that coverage removes a significant long-term cost variable.

When making our purchase decision for a new plant router, the included 10-year support plan was a major factor that stood out among other manufacturers. We'd learned of the reputation of Utah Scientific equipment through colleagues and friends, and the opportunity to not pay for the equipment a second time through 10 years' worth of support contracts was a no-brainer. In the first five years, I've had nothing but great experiences when dealing with the support team at Utah Scientific. Whether I have a configuration question, a crazy "do you think this would work?" idea, or a bad fan, Mario, John, Dave, and Dave have always been knowledgeable, professional, and fun to work with.
