UDS SIgnal Distribution System — Best for:  Multi-output signal distribution across any facility size

UTAH-100 UDS flexible signal distribution

Flexible Signal Distribution That Combines Routing Flexibility With DA Economy

The UTAH-100 UDS combines the flexibility of multi-rate digital switching with the economy of a simple distribution amplifier, for use in signal distribution applications in any type of facility. This modular system is based on I/O modules with 16 ports interconnected by a crosspoint fabric, allowing any input signal to feed as many output ports as needed. Available in 32, 64, and 144 output configurations, the UDS handles SD-SDI, HD-SDI, 3G-SDI, and DVB-ASI with automatic reclocking, and scales from a compact 2RU frame to a 4RU system feeding 144 output ports at a fraction of the cost and power consumption of traditional DA packages.

  • Available in 32×32, 64×64, and 144×144-output configuration – 4RU feeds 144 ports
  • Any input signal assignable to any output port – Modular 16-port I/O cards
  • SD-SDI, HD-SDI, 3G-SDI, DVB-ASI – Automatic relocating – no-fee 10-year warranty

MAXMUX Multiplexing System — Best for:  Maximizing fiber capacity for high-volume signal transport

Front view of Utah-400 Series Hybrid Router for hybrid signal paths for broadcast routing

Quadruple Your Fiber Capacity — 80 Signals Over One 12G or 6G Data Stream

The MAXMUX Multiplexing System allows users to combine up to 80 discrete 3G or 1.5G signals into one uncompressed 12G or 6G data stream, offering a more cost-effective transport solution for fiber applications. It increases the maximum number of 3G/1.5G channels over CWDM from 18 to 72, allowing users to quadruple their utilization of previously existing fiber networks, increasing efficiency and simplifying setup and management, leading to substantial cost savings. Compatible with any standard I/O device, MAXMUX fits anywhere in the signal chain without disrupting existing infrastructure.

  • Up to 80 discrete 3G or 1.5G signals into one 12G or 6G stream – 2RU chassis
  • Supports 12G, 3G, HD, 720p – 23.98Hz to 60Hz refresh rates
  • Compatible with any standard I/O device – no-fee 10-year warranty

Every Signal Every Layer.
One Manufacturer

_____________

Most broadcast facilities source their signal infrastructure from multiple vendors — a router from one manufacturer, distribution amplifiers from another, a sync generator from a third. Each product comes with its own warranty terms, its own support pathway, and its own end-of-life timeline. Managing those relationships, contracts, and infrastructure refresh cycles is a cost that rarely appears on a spec sheet.

Utah Scientific’s signal infrastructure product line is built to cover every layer of the broadcast signal chain from a single manufacturer, including routing, distribution, amplification, transport, and synchronization, all engineered to work together, all managed through the same control infrastructure, and the routers are all backed by the same no-fee 10-year hardware warranty that no other broadcast manufacturer comes close to matching.

These solutions provide more cost-effective and efficient ways for professionals in the broadcast, AV integration, and content delivery industries to manage and distribute high-quality video signals across existing infrastructure. The philosophy is consistent across every product: protect the investment you’ve already made, add capability incrementally, and never pay twice for a decade of reliability..

Side-by-side fiber capacity comparison showing signal transport before and after deploying the Utah Scientific MAXMUX multiplexing system. On the left, eighteen individual 3G or 1.5G SDI channels are shown travelling a standard CWDM fiber link — leaving 75% of the fiber's potential capacity unused. On the right, the same CWDM fiber link carries 72 channels after MAXMUX multiplexes up to 80 discrete signals into a single uncompressed 12G or 6G data stream, quadrupling fiber utilisation with no change to the physical infrastructure.

Inside Utah Scientific’s Signal Infrastructure – How the Full Chain Works Together

Layered signal chain diagram showing how Utah Scientific's signal infrastructure products cover every stage of broadcast signal flow. Sources including cameras, playback systems, remote feeds, and IP sources feed into the SPG9000 sync generator, which provides GNSS, PTP, black burst, and NTP timing for both SDI and IP environments. Signals then pass through the UDS signal distribution system for multi-output distribution, into the UTAH-400 Series 2 or UHD-12G routing switcher for core routing, through the MAXMUX multiplexing system for cost-effective fiber transport, and finally to the UHD DA 12G configurable distribution amplifier for final signal distribution. All routers are backed by Utah Scientific's no-fee 10-year hardware warranty.

How signal distribution, amplification, transport, and synchronisation integrate with Utah Scientific routing systems in a single coherent infrastructure.

  • Signal Distribution — Any Input to Any Output:
The UDS modular system uses a crosspoint fabric that allows any input signal to feed as many output ports as needed — the same architectural principle as Utah Scientific’s routing systems, scaled down to distribution-level economics. Signals can be assigned and reassigned at any output port without rewiring, and the multi-rate I/O cards handle SD through 3G-SDI without format-specific cards.
  • Multiplexed Transport — More Signals, Less Fiber: MAXMUX can be used with any standard input or output device, giving users more flexibility to optimize signal transport, reduce costs, and simplify complex transport scenarios without compromising signal quality. Up to 80 discrete signals travel as one uncompressed stream — reconstructed at the destination with full signal integrity.
  • Distribution Amplification — Configurable to the Signal Chain: The UHD DA 12G configures from 1×32 to 16×2 and every combination in between. It’s a single product that adapts to the specific distribution requirements of each point in the signal chain rather than requiring multiple fixed-format DA units.
  • Synchronization — One Reference for SDI and IP: The SPG9000 sync generator is ideal for broadcast, sports, mobile live production, and post production, adapting to multiple timing sources and providing distribution options for both SDI and IP environments. A single sync generator that manages legacy Black Burst references and PTP timing simultaneously means facilities in transition don’t need separate timing infrastructure for separate signal domains.
  • One Control Architecture: Every Utah Scientific signal infrastructure product is engineered to operate alongside Utah Scientific’s routing systems under the same control infrastructure — SC-4, SC-40, SC-400, or NMOS-based control via NBOSS for IP environments. Signal distribution, SDI / IP routing, and timing managed from a unified operational environment.

What Our Customers Have To Say About Us

“The UTAH-400 was a great choice for the upgrade. Not only does the router come with Utah Scientific’s no-fee, 10-year warranty — unheard of in the broadcast industry — but it’s based on a unique hybrid signal architecture that offers a single platform for all types of signals, including those used in IP networks.”
– Chuck Heffner, Digital Video Group
When making our purchase decision for a new plant router, the included 10-year support plan was a major factor that stood out among other manufacturers. We'd learned of the reputation of Utah Scientific equipment through colleagues and friends, and the opportunity to not pay for the equipment a second time through 10 years' worth of support contracts was a no-brainer. In the first five years, I've had nothing but great experiences when dealing with the support team at Utah Scientific. Whether I have a configuration question, a crazy "do you think this would work?" idea, or a bad fan, Mario, John, Dave, and Dave have always been knowledgeable, professional, and fun to work with.
- Aaron Jones, WCMU Public Media
