Hybrid SDI / IP Routing Solutions
Bridging the Gap:
Reliable Hybrid SDI / IP
Routing Solutions
Protect your current SDI infrastructure investment while seamlessly integrating SMPTE ST 2110 IP workflows, all in a single mission-critical frame.
12G-SDI Routing Switchers for Every UHD Facility Size
The pressure to move to IP is real. So is the risk of moving too fast. Utah Scientific hybrid routers give broadcast engineers and facility managers a third option: a phased, low-risk path that runs SDI and SMPTE ST 2110 simultaneously in the same chassis, under the same control system, with a built-in SDI fallback if anything on the IP side goes wrong. No rip and replace. No parallel infrastructure. No single point of failure. Choose the system that matches your facility’s current workflow — and scale from there.
— Best for: Enterprise Facilities & Mission-Critical Broadcasts

The All-in-One Hybrid SDI/IP Router with Built-In ST 2110 Failsafe
The UTAH-400 Series 2 Gateway Router delivers hybrid SDI/IP functionality and an ST 2110 gateway simultaneously in one chassis, eliminating the need for separate external gateway devices. IP conversion is integrated directly into the router frame via PassThrough cards, so if the IP control system or network fabric encounters a disruption, critical feeds remain live through the dedicated SDI path. Whether you’re running a hybrid core or transitioning to full ST 2110, this router fits both, and stays under warranty through the upgrade.
- Scalable from 72×72 to 1056×1056 – multiple frame sizes available
- Switches ST 2110 and SDI like a router – no separate control system required
- Industry’s only no-fee 10-year hardware warranty included
— Best for: Enterprise Hybrid Routing at Any Scale

Enterprise Hybrid Router Platform for SD, HD, 3G, and IP Signal Formats
The UTAH-400 Series 2 is designed to provide a single platform for all signal formats including those used in IP networks, built on a unique hybrid architecture that makes it ideal for even the most complex signal management environments. Advanced modules deliver SDI management, IP decoding and multiplexing of SMPTE ST 2022-6/8, clean-quiet switching, audio shuffling, de-embedding and embedding, AES, MADI, and support for fiber and analog formats — all in a single frame. Add IP capability incrementally using PassThrough cards without replacing the chassis.
- Frame sizes: 72×72, 144×144, 288×288, 528×528, and 1056×1056
- Hot-swappable modular I/O cards reduce rack space and power consumption
- Compatible with SC-4, SC-40, and SC-400 control systems plus NMOS
— Best for: Adding ST 2110 to Any Existing Router

1RU Hybrid SDI-to-ST 2110 Gateway for Any Broadcast Router
On-Ramp is a 1RU rack-mountable hybrid gateway that allows for a gradual IP transition, extending the lifespan of existing equipment and minimizing upfront costs. Featuring five hot-swappable card slots and 16 SFP cages, it can be configured to encapsulate and de-encapsulate 12G UHD, 3G HD, and 1.5G SDI signals into SMPTE ST 2110 IP streams, or used for signal processing — or both simultaneously. On-Ramp integrates with Utah Scientific’s UDS, Series 2, and UHD router lines, and is designed to be forward-compatible with future router generations.
- Supports single, double, or mixed encap/de-encap configurations
- Optional HD/UHD SDI processing: up/down/cross-convert, frame sync, clean and quiet
- IRU form factor backed by Utah Scientific’s 10-year hardware warranty
One Chassis. Two Signal Worlds.
Zero Compromise on Reliability.
_____________
The conventional approach to hybrid SDI/IP routing requires external gateway devices sitting between your SDI router and your IP network, adding rack space, power draw, latency risk, and one more point of failure in a chain where failure isn’t an option.
Utah Scientific engineers it differently. By embedding gateway functionality directly within the SDI routing fabric via PassThrough cards, the system maintains a physical SDI connection for continuous signal flow — so if the IP control system or network fabric encounters a disruption, critical feeds remain live through the dedicated SDI path.
Whether configured as a core router in an ST 2110/SDI hybrid solution or as a gateway and edge device in an ST 2110 core, the system continues to function through any interruption to the 2110 core (including a switch control system crash) protecting against the kind of downtime that can cost hundreds of thousands of dollars in lost revenue.
That’s not a workaround. It’s the architecture.
Inside the Hybrid Chassis – Unified Signal Path Architecture
How Utah Scientific manages uncompressed SDI and ST 2110 streams simultaneously without compromising timing or reliability.

- Integrated Gateways: PassThrough cards let you embrace the benefits of IP without abandoning your current routing setup. Encapsulation and de-encapsulation happen insider the router frame, saving rack space and power.
- Timing Domain Management: The system is PTP compliant with clocking not required, and supports simultaneous management of ST 2110 timing alongside legacy analog Black Burst references.
- SDI Failsafe: If there is an interruption to the ST 2110 core, such as a switch control system crash, the system continues to function through the dedicated SDI path, preventing the kind of downtime that can cost hundreds of thousands of dollars lost in revenue.
